This is book gives very playable lines with 1.d4 without giving highly analyzed lines that are constantly revised. This is invaluable for me because I want a readily playable repertoire without going deep into every possible reply. I especially like the repertoire for the Nimzo-Indian (4.e3, deferred Saemisch) and the King's Indian (Saemisch-style offshoot), which I have had difficulty playing against until I used this repertoire.

My only criticism with the repertoire is that sometimes the lines are somewhat tame for my style--for example he chooses a Slav exchange variation.

However, I supplement this repertoire with Steffen Pederson and Graham's QGD for the attacking player. Between these books, I have basically everything I need to play 1.d4.

Bech proposes a novel interpretation of the nature of masculinity and its connections with homosexuality. Besides a critical discussion of existing theories in the area, the author also analyses a rich variety of other materials, including novels, films and other literature. When Men Meet represents both an analysis of the places in which encounters occur - the railway station, the park, the disco, the consulting room, the stadium - but is also a metaphor for key aspects of modernity. In analysing the nature of the modern social world, Bech makes use of insights from Adorno and Benjamin as well as Sartre and Heidegger.

Modernity and sexuality, Bech argues, are both intertwined and changing. He concludes by proposing that, having been created by modernity, 'the homosexual' is now disappearing in conjunction with the changes transforming modernity itself.

For the adjusted Big Mac approach to FX valuation, the text says that a currency's percentage misvaluation versus the US dollar is equal to the economy's Big Mac's residual in USDs, which is the BM price represented in USDs minus predicted BM price in USDs (on the "line of best fit").
